Two pictures taken with a spatial or time separation that are then arranged to be viewed simultaneously. When so viewed they provide the sense of a three-dimensional scene using the innate capability of the human visual system to detect three dimensions.

Type of air pollution, such as Los Angeles smog, associated with the buildup of oxidation products formed from the degradation of hydrocarbons, etc. The term arises because sunlight is required to initiate photolysis reactions. Ozone and nitrogen dioxide are always present in photochemically produced mixtures; often other species such as peroxyacetyl nitrate and formaldehyde are also produced.
Industry:Weather
Unfrozen ground beneath permafrost. Compare talik.
Industry:Weather
Universal behavior of Fourier spectra of turbulence in the atmospheric boundary layer when the spectral energy and the frequency (or wavenumber) are made dimensionless using the appropriate boundary layer scales. Separate spectral similarity relationships have been found for the surface layer and for the convective mixed layer. See similarity theory, dimensional analysis, fast Fourier transform, Buckingham Pi theory, inertial subrange, Kolmogorov's similarity hypotheses.
Industry:Weather
Unsteady flow in which the velocity decreases at a point over time.
Industry:Weather
Untreated water, or water received for further treatment.
Industry:Weather
Upper-level wind estimates derived from the movement of a free balloon equipped with a passive or active detector.
Industry:Weather
Use of radar for determining the azimuth, elevation, and range of a balloon- borne target and, from this position information as a function of time, the wind speed and direction.
Industry:Weather
Use of radioactive isotopes to estimate the age of a sample of water or rock; more precisely, radiometric dating. See'' also'' groundwater dating.
Industry:Weather
Used water that has had its quality sufficiently upgraded so that it can be used for another purpose or restored for the same purpose.
