A collective term to indicate information from a set of fields that is available in various font tables for determining vertical spacing when laying out text. Some of these fields can be used to arrive at the vertical distance required between two consecutive horizontal baselines, while others can be used to determine vertical spacing for each glyph when text is laid out vertically.
