A professional who accompanies airplane captains and airplane first-officers periodically, to test and review their proficiency. Responsibilities include:

• Observes and evaluates pilot knowledge and skills, utilizing such means as technical manuals, check lists, and proficiency tests.
• Notes compliance with and infringement of company or Federal Aviation Administration flight regulations.
• Compiles and issues reports on findings to appropriate company and Federal Aviation Administration officials.
