A professional who tends machine that cuts ventilating (cooling) grooves in asbestos brake linings. Responsibilities include:

• Positions tension rollers and guides on machine according to size of brake linings specified on work order, using handcrank, measuring scale, and screwdriver.
• Turns handwheel to position abrasive grooving wheel for specified depth of cut.
• Pushes button to start machine and feeds lining into machine and observes lining for surface or grooving defects.
• Measures depth, width, and position of groove, using template, and adjusts machine as required.
• Discards linings not meeting specifications and places acceptable linings in rack.
• Records production data on work order.
