A professional who assembles pattern chains that control pattern-forming motion of guide bars (flat metal bars on which yarn guides are attached) on knitting machines. Responsibilities include:

• Selects pattern-chain links according to pattern diagram.
• Marks links according to sequence in chain, using bevel square and scriber.
• Holds link against electric grinder to bevel end down to marking so link will adjust guide bars smoothly.
• Inserts connecting pins through holes in links to assemble links that form pattern chain.
