A professional who sets up battery of machines that trim small arms cartridge cases and artillery shell cases to specified length. Respnsibilities include:

  • Installs cutters and adjusts stops and cams to regulate machine stroke and synchronize movements of feeding, cutting, and ejection mechanisms, using handtools.
  • Sharpens dulled cutters and polishes scratched punches, using bench grinder, speed lathe, and emery cloth.
  • Removes housings, guards, feed tubes, chutes, tool holders, and other accessories to replace worn or broken parts, such as springs, bushings, and push-rods.
  • May straighten bent punches and machine parts, using hammer and anvil.
