A long, thin, flexible tube with wires and metal bands or electrodes that is inserted into the groyne vein and threaded up through the blood vessel and into the heart under X-ray guidance. Mapping/diagnostic catheters are used to identify the location of the abnormality, and ablation catheters are used to destroy the tissue in the affected location.
