Industry:Weather
The scientific study of atmospheric dust and other suspended impurities, such as germs and pollen.

Industry:Weather
An instrument for determining the dust content of a sample of air. One form of the instrument consists of a tapered metal tube through which a sample of air is drawn and allowed to impinge upon a glass slide covered with a viscous substance. The particles caught are counted and measured with the aid of a microscope. See dust counter.

The western part of the subpolar gyre in the deep (western) part of the Bering Sea. It flows southward along the Kamchatka Peninsula with speeds of 0. 2–0. 3 m s−1. Most of its water leaves the Bering Sea and forms one of the two sources of the Oyashio.
Industry:Weather
A dry, dusty, and generally hot desert wind in Egypt and over the Red Sea. It is generally southerly or southeasterly, occurring in front of depressions moving eastward across North Africa or the southeastern Mediterranean. The deep khamsins occur in spring with depressions traveling east-northeast across the northern Sahara. They are preceded by a heat wave lasting about three days and are followed by a duststorm. The passage of the depression is marked by a cold front bringing Mediterranean air and a sudden drop in temperature. See ghibli, chili, sirocco.

Industry:Weather
A first-order rate coefficient (in units of inverse time) for the occurrence of a photochemical reaction. The j-value is calculated from the product of the absorption cross section of the molecule being photolyzed, the quantum yield for the process, and the actinic flux, all integrated over the wavelength region of interest. See actinometer.
